We are focused on making the maximum positive effort for our communities. Our members and volunteers provide the momentum that helps us to effect change. We are striving to become self-sustaining in agriculture. Working with land owners and planting crops while using good farming techniques so we are able to provide food to our local communities. In the process feed more people so that no one goes hungry on Rusinga Island again. We have hurdles to overcome like fencing, hippos and irrigation, but together we are determined to make real change. While many people in the past were out for themselves. Aflik is bringing together all the people of Rusinga Island and breaking barriers working together to accomplish tangible goals.
Youth Program
We want to be a platform where every young person can achieve personal and community goals that lead to a healthy and productive life. Mentoring is a fundamental tool in helping children and youth find their way in life. Unfortunately, many youth lack natural mentors who can guide them through the often difficult task of growing up. Mentoring that is safe, effective and sustainable takes a dedicated team of people who can promote and encourage our youth.
We want to put mentoring back into the community. Older generations must pass on their values, skills and faith to the young. The hope in mentoring is that our youth will take what we share and bring it to new heights. Youth mentoring is a natural part of a healthy family and community life. To many youth lack the mentors to enable them to fully realize all that God has put into their lives. The goal is to strive for academic excellence, educate families effectively and successfully bring together community resources to address youth empowerment. Our committee is made up of faith leaders, teachers and business leaders who are dedicated to serving and mentoring the youth of Rusinga Island. We take our faith out of the churches and into the community where it is truly needed. Our priority is teaching youth about themselves and promoting self-esteem through motivational group leaders giving hope to the youth and challenging their outlook.
